Where Can We Go

This website is produced using almost exclusively free software. It is mostly hand-coded using Notepad++ to combine html, Javascript, jQuery, php, and MariaDB. Most of the website information is kept in a MariaDB database which is maintained offline as Microsoft Excel spreadsheets. These spreadsheets are uploaded to our server using the (only slightly less free) Excel2MySQL, with thanks to the software developers for their superb support! Many flyers were designed with free photo editing software Paint.NET, more recently in combination with Photoshop Elements.

Two php libraries are used: PHPMailer to send e-mails, and TCPDF to produce and attach print-at-home PDF tickets. These tickets can be purchased online - PayPal Checkout with Smart Buttons Javascripts are integrated into the website with confirmation e-mails sent using PayPal's Instant Notification. If there are concert recordings to listen to, they can be played back using the Plyr Javascript media player, extended to include playlist functionality and to allow streaming on iOS too. The nifty nanogallery library provides a Javascript photo gallery and lightbox to display concert photos in the members' area. Mailings are sent using the elegantly small Javascript text editor library TinyMCE which also powers our contact form. Our repertoire list and other tables avaible on this website can be sorted using a variant of the dinky sorttable Javascript library.

Our Facebook feed is embedded using the social medium's own script, with some modification to make it as responsive as the rest of the site. Audience and choir members can stay up-to-date with "Add to Calendar" and "Subscribe" buttons via Michael Nilsson's beautifully made AddEvent calendar service. The favicons for various operating systems are generated with Philippe Bernard's excellent Real Favicon Generator. Mange tak and merci beaucoup to Michael and Philippe for their outstanding customer support!

The result is tested locally using WampServer and uploaded to our servers with the FileZilla FTP solution. Prior to uploading, images are losslessly compressed using Javier GutiƩrrez Chamorro's wonderful FileOptimizer. The site is further optimised using GTMetrix. The links are maintained with Xenu's Link Sleuth. The metatags of the sound and video files are kept up-to-date with Mp3tag.

This site, which is happily hosted on eUKhost's servers, is distributed across the globe using the Cloudflare content delivery network.

Thanks to all the developers for these wonderful and mostly free programmes.
