Orlando Chamber Choir

Now celebrating its 20th season, Orlando Chamber Choir is a small and friendly London chamber choir which performs regularly in Central London venues. While specialising in Renaissance and baroque music the choir has succeeded in building a varied repertoire stretching over five centuries - including a cappella music and more ambitious works with professional soloists and instrumentalists. The choir consists of about 40 enthusiastic amateur musicians. Most have had singing lessons and many perform with other choirs too.

Orlando Chamber Choir has had the privilege of working with various inspirational conductors since it was founded in 1994. They include Ian Brown, Brian Gordon, Edward Wickham, James Weeks, Richard Wilberforce and, from September 2013, Will Dawes.

The choir promotes at least three major concerts each year, often performing at St James's Piccadilly. Highlights include the excitingly rhythmical Latin American baroque programme El Nuevo Mundo directed by Richard Wilberforce and, in November 2013, a beautifully atmospheric performance of Sch├╝tz' Musikalische Exequien and Scarlatti's ten-part Stabat Mater with Will Dawes. Apart from these major concerts Orlando Chamber Choir regularly promotes smaller projects such as Christmas Carol concerts and choral workshops.

Orlando Chamber Choir is a registered charity (no. 1059881).

David Harris

It is with great sadness that we let you know that our chairman, fellow singer and friend David Harris died on
25 March after a short illness.

David joined the choir in 2003, impressing everyone with his warm bass sound and matching personality. He soon became a central member of the choir and, in early 2007, was elected chairman. Orlando is passionate about music - and when passions ran high, David showed a rare talent to channel them all in the same direction.

It was great fun to sing with David and to spend time with him after rehearsals. He was a gifted musician with a beautiful voice. He was also a wonderful warm and witty man, with a true interest in his fellow singers and a listening ear to what was going on in the choir and outside it. He was unanimously voted chairman once again in 2013.

David Harris David was, in more ways than one, the bedrock of the choir. He will be sadly missed - but Orlando will treasure many happy memories
of making music, organising, and
raising glasses together.
